This is great because it links the impact of traditional toilet paper with the deforestation and habitat loss that it causes. To go further, the next steps for Bazoo is to track and publish their environmental impact in a report. That’s a lot of waste for something you use once then flush down the loo…and we’re not about to start re-using it!
This isn’t negative in its own right, but it does mean that the materials or product needs to be shipped across the world to the UK. Without mucking around with fancy packaging, they’ve built a simple product that serves it’s purpose which is to wipe our bums. They’ve produced a very good quality toilet paper product that’s not only strong and soft, but helps you to reduce your carbon impact too. All of my family agreed and were very happy with the product – even the sustainable toilet paper sceptics! The journey so far has been full of ups and downs, whilst Bazoo navigated a post-pandemic world, but we’ve loved it. Typical toilet roll uses bleaching to get the white colour,hence Bamboo Bobbi’s toilet paper being closer to brown than white.
We personally use bamboo paper as we like the fact that it is sustainably grown, biodegradable and doesn’t clog waterways unlike conventional toilet roll. For example, in cafes and business premises, wrappers protect the rolls and lend some strong brand marketing too. Not only did this paper feel delicate on my skin, but I also only needed a few sheets to get the job done.
The packaging they use includes recyclable cardboard as well as completely plastic free wrappers that are home compostable. If you can’t afford to fully switch to eco friendly toilet paper, why not just get a few deliveries per year instead so you can at least reduce your impact overall?
