You may dissociate the memory of the situation, place, or feelings about an overwhelming event. This often makes it difficult to remember the details of the events later. There are also "reversal" mysteries, in which the conventional structure is deliberately inverted. One of the earliest examples of this is Trent's Last Case (1914) by E. C. Bentley (1875–1956). Trent, a very able amateur detective, investigates the murder of Sigsbee Manderson.
