About this deal

At the heart of this espresso machine are a 950ml steam boiler, a PID controlled 450ml brew boiler, a heat exchanger and a PID controlled heated group. What has come to light from the Home Barista forums, also from threads on the UK coffee forums, is that in terms of the issues that are likely to need dealing with, mainly it's just the normal stuff.

This small feature ensures the exact temperature and pressure are achieved during extraction of espresso. It's also possible to go further than this and do what is known as flow profiling, with the help of a scale which gives you flow data such as the Acaia Lunar, and with a very simple (and free, and completely reversible) mod to the machine which enables you to control the pump pressure via the hot water knob. Vibration pumps are smaller and less expensive. But as you might guess from the name, they vibrate. So espresso machines with vibration pumps are usually louder. That said, advances in sound-dampening technology have improved this in recent years. Do you have enough space for a dual-boiler machine? This is made even more confusing given that the UK Breville brand are selling some machines that look quite similar to some of the Sage machines, and have similar sounding names, so I do hear from people who made the assumption that they'd basically found great deal for a sage coffee machine. The standard approach to designing a new domestic espresso machine would be to try the best domestic machines on the market, reverse engineer them and look at making them slightly better. But for this project, the goal was “cafe quality espresso at home” and they did their research based on commercial equipment, not domestic. If you also use manual brew methods, though, I'd highly recommend keeping the smart grinder pro and using it for this.

Looking after the dual boiler is easy. Should you need to move it, there’s dial underneath the pull-out drip tray that lifts the machine onto its three wheels, so you can simply wheel it forwards. It’ll need cleaning after 200 goes, although the LCD panel will let you know when this is due. It’s then a simple matter of inserting a cleaning tablet into the special holder, which fits into the single cup filter. All of these items can be stored neatly in the tool drawer, which sits underneath the drip tray. Other than that, it’s a matter of occasionally descaling the machine, with the manual giving you detailed instructions on how to do it. Sage The Dual Boiler review:Verdict Understanding that temperature stability is paramount, they didn't stop here, they fitted a heating element to the group, and they fitted a temperature sensor in the group and a separate one in the brew boiler. Most people are more than happy with the cappuccino, latte and Americano these kinds of machines will make, and if you are, there's absolutely nothing wrong with bean to cup machines, they can be a very cheap, convenient and reliable way to drink great quality coffee shop favourites at home. Before signing off, I just wanted to deal with this question, as it's something I've read some rumours about. In fact, if you Google Breville Dual Boiler, you'll find one of the predicted searches is “is the Breville dual boiler being discontinued?”.To someone who hasn't caught the home barista bug, or to someone who doesn't even drink coffee, spending hundreds or even thousands on a coffee machine must seem very odd, I get that.
