About this deal

When three members of a family come into a substantial amount of cash on the death of their father, the decisions they must make test their bonds, their marriages (in two cases), their friendships and their memories of how life has affected them in the past as they each seek to get the future right.

Each family member has their own option on what they should do with the money ! Max and Caroline , Ellie and her husband James and youngest son Nathan have always been close that’s until the cash discovery which threatens to tear the family apart.Imogen Clark is an author who has been on my radar for ages and I jumped at the chance to be part of the readalong plans for An Unwanted Inheritance. What happens when you drop a bag of cash right in the middle of three siblings and their families? A whole lot of good fun and drama. An Unwanted Inheritance delightfully explores the flaws that come with being human as Clark plunges us into a story about what is right and wrong and what it means to be a family. She ratchets up the tension as the story races to its surprising and oh, so satisfying conclusion.” — Boo Walker, bestselling author of The Singing Trees

From the bestselling author of Reluctantly Home comes a story of three siblings and a suitcase full of cash. Will the unexpected windfall tear them apart? The way the money was found could be compared with looking under a stone, revealing character traits and personality differences never seen before. Max, Ellie and Nathan need to decide what to do with this windfall of cash ... whether it is rightfully theirs to keep ... or whether it will indeed be their undoing, the love of money plaguing their lives more than they realised. Each sibling examines their own conscience - if aware they have one - individually and collectively. Just one negative. I was irritated by the repeated use of one particular phrase. When asked how things were going, four different characters, at four different times, responded with the answer 'same old, same old'. I mean, who on earth uses that expression these days?A gripping tale about money, greed, and what really matters.” – Anstey Harris, bestselling author of The Truths and Triumphs of Grace Atherton. Caroline is married to Max, the eldest son. She found the money. Her instincts, and that of her husband, are to keep everything above board. The story is about the Frost family, close knit and loving, who discover a large quantity of money stashed under their father's bed when he dies unexpectedly. No one knows where the money has come from or why it is there but everyone knows exactly what they should do with it. The difficulty is that none of them agree about what that should be, and they all have secret motivations that they'd rather not share with their siblings. On a positive note, there were lots of things I did like about this book. The premise - as I’ve mentioned. I also liked the explanation regarding where the money came from. I thought that was very cleverly done. The mystery of its acquisition forced us to contemplate the integrity of Tony throughout the book.

When their father dies suddenly, Max’s wife Caroline stumbles upon the hidden suitcase. The question is who it belongs too and why is it hidden in their late fathers spare bedroom? One finds a stash of cash hidden by the man they thought they knew, and it raises all sorts of dilemmas. I returned to this quote after reading An Unwanted Inheritance because, to me, whether intentional or coincidental, Imogen Clark's latest novel is an examination of the subtle differences in the Bible saying we may have heard, with or without the love part. The source of the money is a mystery to them all, and each has a strong opinion about what to do with it. Ellie and her husband James have an expensive lifestyle to maintain and could do with their share of the windfall—James in particular, for reasons he doesn’t dare reveal. Nathan can’t be trusted with money, as the others all know; he’s desperate to get his hands on some (or all) of the cash. But Caroline is the one guarding the suitcase, and she’s insisting to Max that they take it to the police.
