About this deal

He is corrupt, self-righteous, hypocritical, misogynistic, violent, egomaniacal, bullying, and delusional. Nobody talks about this shit because nobody wants to talk about it, and that’s exactly the way people like Trump, Clinton, Dershowitz, Weinstein, Cosby, and Allen, et al, want it. I’m loving your book reviews though, and I’m slowly getting to a point where I think I’ll soon have time to read.

Aparecen nuevos personajes, como Brian Holmes, que tiene bastante importancia en esta novela y otros como Gill Templer, ex de Rebus, que pierden protagonismo.

It is an investigation that will find him not just trying to solve a crime but fighting for his life. It emerges that the dead man took and hid some sensitive photos in a specialist private members' club named Hyde's, where highly connected people in society watch illegal boxing matches. That is - though he's demanding - Rebus isn't the difficult, pushy, irascible, alcoholic, boss-hating man he becomes in later books. I would love to put motherfuckers like Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, Prince Andrew, Alan Dershowitz, Harvey Weinstein, Woody Allen, and Bill Cosby in a basement, tied to chairs, let the women who were victimized by these creeps have thirty minutes in the room with them, providing them with an assortment of rusty surgical equipment.

His girlfriend Tracy is a woman with anger management issues gives him the clues, a missing camera and Ronnie’s last words to her to hide. Some side plots in the story involve illegal dog fights, a gay character, and Rebus's ex-lover - Gillian Templer - who has a new radio DJ boyfriend.

The sale of customised goods or perishable goods, sealed audio or video recordings, or software, which has been opened. I really did not liked the first Inspector Rebus novel but memory is a bit fickle so I decided to go back to Rankin and give him a another chance. Real-life scandal2 Connections to other Rankin books3 Writing Hide and Seek4 ReferencesPlot summaryDetective Inspector John Rebus finds the body of an overdosed drug addict in an Edinburgh squat, laid out cross-like on the floor, between two burned-down candles, with a five-pointed star painted on the wall above. And can he get to the bottom of the mystery in a world where nobody knows anyone’s surname and memories are hazy at best? Rebus takes seriously a death which looks more like a murder every day, and he begins to investigate the true circumstances of the death.

Without these personal relationships, the book doesn't have quite the depth of some of the later Rebus-novels, but the crime-story and solution is decent enough. I enjoyed this one more as we already knew him as a character, his history was in place, and we knew what to expect from him. Rebus is an interesting guy, not always likable, often grouchy and impossible to deal with (the fact that he’s able to get beautiful women is still a bit iffy and too much male fantasy territory, but at least he can keep his hands to himself). It is my extra special pleasure to share the experience of reading this series with my friend, Shirin. And why on earth is Rebus invited to a clay pigeon shoot at the home of the Scottish Office's Permanent Secretary?Admittedly, a stronger three-star rating, but not enough for me to consider giving a four-star rating. The seedy side of Edinburgh drew the addicts, prostitutes and conmen, always finding someone to work over. Cancer used to be a taboo subject, mainly because medical science didn’t understand what cancer was. I didn’t love the first book in Ian Rankin’s Rebus series, but was encouraged by friends to persist (they say gets better). Please note that these ratings solely represent the complete review 's biased interpretation and subjective opinion of the actual reviews and do not claim to accurately reflect or represent the views of the reviewers.
