About this deal

I think that it could be unisex, but it errs much more on the masculine side of the spectrum if you ask me. Still, ladies, by all means, take this one out for a spin and see if it works for you. When To Wear It The fragrance opens up with a blast of grapefruit and the distinctive, licoricey twang of green cardamom pods. While I’m not a big fan of cardamom in food other than as an accent note (it always makes my tongue dry out), I absolutely love the smell of cardamom. This has one of the most realistic and zingy cardamom notes I’ve encountered so far, and so I was in love from first spray. Cyber Garden EDP: a fresh, enveloping scent inspired by a futuristic garden where rare and unusual notes create a vibrant balance. J EDP: a tribute to Japanese tradition with a modern twist. The fragrance combines fine ingredients with typical Japanese delicacy, creating an ethereal and luminous fragrance.

When I wear this fragrance, I envision a well-groomed man in his late 20s or early 30s, perhaps wearing a dark olive green suit. He is well traveled, worldly, and balanced, completely in his element. I think that it would be the perfect fragrance for a poet, philosopher, writer, scholar, or artsy types. If you didn't like the original but like the idea of the original, give this a try. You just might fall in love. Since I have a test bottle, I don’t have a cap, but the cap is like other Costume National fragrances, meaning that it fits very closely on the sprayer and kind of makes you wonder if there’s even any room for the sprayer underneath. I’ll attach a picture of my bottle of Scent Intense for reference. The sprayer itself is your average run-of-the-mill atomizer, nothing fancy but nothing shabby either. EDP: "This fragrance is so pure and candid! It smells like milk, but also has spicy notes that create a wonderful contrast…wow!” - Grace If you want greater performance, you could always amp up the sprays, but I would recommend going easy on the trigger for this one, because… Projection & SillageAt the same time, the clove is underlined by a subtle sweet-spicy nuance, which ensures that the heart note has a beautiful smooth substance and is due to the cinnamon. The original was similarly spicy, but absolutely dominated by cloves. Cloves and I have a difficult relationship; I do enjoy some fragrances with cloves in them, such as Portrait of a Lady and Musc Ravageur, both by Frederic Malle, but on the whole I really don’t particularly enjoy cloves, either in fragrance or in food. The original also had a funky, herbal thyme note which clashed with the other notes in an unappealing manner, in my opinion. These two notes are surrounded by a beautiful light balsamic note reminiscent of blossom honey, which gives the base flattering attributes and allows the fragrance to fade away wonderfully.

Dominique Ropion is a French master perfumer, born in Paris in 1955. He attended the Roure Bertrand Dupont perfumery school in Grasse to pursue his passion for perfumery. After completing his education, he started his career at the legendary Roure Bertrand laboratories, where he met his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. I vastly prefer this over the original eau de parfum, which I tried a number of times but never could convince myself to enjoy. Homme is the fragrance of a man with impeccable taste, who prefers a neutral colour palette and loves being surrounded by unique objects, the pursuit of absolute quality and design. His innate elegance is never boasted and is the result of a refined attitude towards beauty, expressed in every facet of his essence. Homme is timeless elegance; a merino wool overcoat; a byword for sophistication. The eau de parfum opens with fresh top notes of bergamot, grapefruit and cardamom. The heart reveals a distinctive nature, thanks to an unexpected mix of LMR* cinnamon of Grasse, thyme and cloves. In the base notes, patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum lay bare the depth and mystery of the male character. This is magnetic alchemy of seduction, mystery and timeless elegance.Costume National Homme Parfum is a spice bomb of epic proportions. I will caution you: if you don’t like spicy fragrances, STAY AWAY. Yesterday though I sampled this for the first time. Man, was I surprised! I really liked it, rom the fresh citrussy opening to the heartnotes where you are greeted by cloves and cinnamon. The cloves are clearly present but it's not as if you're dipped into a jar of cloves. They blend really well with the cinnamon actually. It's a very warm, spicy scent. The only thing I had some mixed feelings about was the base that revealed itself after 5 or 6 hours. The sandalwood is accompanied by a slightly earthy-sweetish nuance, which provides a pleasant depth and is due to the patchouli.

Scent Intense EDP: "Wow, this fragrance is amazing! One spray, and I feel surrounded by an incredible and magnetic aura!" - Elisa It’s a very pleasant fragrance, but the spices might not be to everyone’s taste, so spray with caution. Value For Money My initial impression stays, this is a wonderful perfume. Even for those that don't like cloves, like me, this can be perfectly accesible. The comparison to Comme des Garçons is one that I can understand, especially during the first few minutes. But this perfume is a lot softer and much less pungent than CDG, which was more medicinal and heavy. I find CNH more versatile and more crowd friendly. It kind of reminds me of the holidays, don't know why though, but it does. In my view, this will be a great choice for people who are in their mid-late 20s and above who are a bit more settled in life. There’s a high probability that the person who likes this will have an interest in art, literature, film, music, etc. They probably go to art galleries and concerts, read books, and keep their finger on the pulse of world events. However, owning two other Costume National fragrances as I do, I can speak to the box presentation. The fragrance comes in a dark grey box with the name of the brand and the fragrance written in silver lettering. There’s little in the way of additional accoutrements inside the box, just the bottle. Still, it’s perfectly in line with Costume National’s Italian minimalist aesthetic. Bottle

Experiences

Some of Ropion's popular creations include Givenchy Ysatis, Givenchy Amarige, Kenzo Jungle Elephant, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Thierry Mugler Alien, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. However, his most famous creation is arguably Portrait of a Lady for Frédéric Malle, which he developed with his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. This fragrance is considered a masterpiece in the fragrance industry and has received critical acclaim.

Homme, created by perfumer Dominique Ropion, is a close relative of Comme des Garçons Series 3, Incense fragrances (woody/resinous with sweet/spicy facets) and it’s practically a “twin” of Eau d'Italie Baume du Doge. Homme includes notes of grapefruit, bergamot, cardamom, cinnamon, thyme, clove, patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum. In a few words, Costume National Homme Parfum is: rich, smooth, spicy, creamy, woody, dark green, exotic, and festive. Presentation I EDP: "When I wear it, I feel like a queen! With this warm and intense trail it's always a safe bet!" - Mary That means this one here is an absolute bomb. DISCRETION IS ADVISED. I would recommend no more than three sprays for this fragrance, and that only if you’re going to be outdoors. For normal use, I limit myself to two sprays, and if I wear this to work, a single spray. It’s that strong.

It is a pretty versatile fragrance which will do you good at the office (so long as you go easy on the trigger), semi-formal and formal occasions, casual hangouts, and maybe even romantic encounters, though I wouldn’t recommend it for a first date due to the polarizing nature of the spices. Similar Fragrances The eau de parfum and Costume National Homme Parfum are quite similar in terms of scent, but the differences all come down to the levels of certain ingredients. Ropion was Laurent Bruyere's most frequent co-creator, working together with him on eight different fragrances. The most well known of these is Thierry Mugler Alien. In many ways Homme is a classic bit of Ropion construction and there are some elements from two of my favorite overlooked fragrances by M. Ropion; the Kenzo pair of Jungle L'Elephant and Jungle Le Tigre.
