About this deal

The debate is a fierce one in some circles and can cause anxiety and guilt among the more eco-leaning parents. In 2005, there was uproar when the UK government published research claiming “it was no more environmentally friendly to use reusable nappies than disposables”. A similar report three years later reversed these claims. Then a report found that, yes, biodegradable nappies do degrade, it can take up to 50 years and such products have been found to produce more methane, which is bad for the environment. How do you get the perfect fit to prevent leaks? What did you like most about Pura’s nappies? I loved the fact that they were unscented and contained plant based fibres. My daughters nappy rash improved dramatically by using these nappies. I love that she was itchy wearing a nappy, was more comfortable and they didn't leak once. If you are planning on taking your little one for a dip, you will want to make sure they are wearing a good swimming nappy to avoid any accidents in the water. Unlike regular nappies, these Huggies Little Swimmers are made from lighter materials which don’t make the nappy swell or become heavy when immersed in water. This means that, while the nappies won’t be able to contain urine (be careful when you are out of the water), they do a great job of holding in any number twos. Although they are thinner than usual nappies, they have leak guards that form a seal around the legs so your baby (and anyone in the vicinity) will be protected while enjoying a swim.

The cost of nappies can vary depending on the brand you choose. Supermarket own-label nappies are generally cheaper than big brands such as Pampers. When it comes to baby products, marrying ethics, value and effectiveness can be a difficult task, especially when it comes to disposable nappies. I tested the Pura range and this is what I found. I will definitely buy them again,. As I am currently on a tight budget I would alternate with what I am using now. Ideally I would like to try the Pura nappy subscription. One of the best things about these reusable swimming nappies is that they’re super easy to take off after use—simply tear the sides and off they come. This ensures that you don’t have to fumble around pulling down a wet nappy while your little one is getting cold. The Little Swimmers are thin enough to fit underneath a swimsuit without looking too bulky, and they’re adorned with colourful Disney designs which look super cute. Our small person is an excellent sleeper but a wet or leaking nappy will wake her, usually at around 3am. We did not have to get out of bed with the Pura. 7:30am came and we all got up, with the little one sporting a super heavy, wet nappy that didn’t leak even one drop. We were both utterly confused how such a thin nappy contained so much urine, but it did. What’s more, no discomfort and no sign of an imminent nappy rash. We tested again the following night and the result was exactly the same.

The fit was great. That’s the first thing I really noticed as I popped a nappy on our 19-month-old daughter . She’s a little baby bean pole, all legs and no bottom, so she’s slim but tall, meaning that she often falls between sizes. Not here though, as the size 4 was perfect for her 10kg frame. The velcro-ish tabs were super tough and everything felt comfortable, not pinchy around her thighs at all. She was especially active during the day, so I can only assume she was more comfortable than usual. All messes were perfectly contained, with no sign of imminent leaking, but it would be the night test that was the real proof. What did you think of the overall quality of the nappies? I thought they were great quality nappy, no leaks, comfortable for my daughter to wear although I did find the size 6s quite snug. They only just fit and my daughter isn't even 2 yet. I found the tabs were great, very strong and difficult for dd to remove herself. Disposable nappies: the pros Can simply be thrown away after use, widely available in supermarkets, easy to carry around when you're out and about, high absorbency. Based on the average price per nappy, Asda, Sainsbury's and Ocado were the cheapest places to go for Pampers size 4 nappies over the last year. This is based on the average price over the entire year. Let me begin by saying that we are a reusable nappy household, but at night, or when out for long days on our bicycles, we use disposables. We have always sought to use the most environmental varieties possible, with Eco by Naty being our usual brand of choice, but when I saw an advert for Pura nappies , I decided to give something new a try and review it.

Brands may slightly differ when it comes to size and weights but most will follow the size guide below: Worst brand: 65% Parents were most disappointed with the fit and ease of use of this brands' nappies. Children in the larger nappy sizes can also try a more absorbent ‘plus’ size nappy which is denoted with a + symbol next to the size, i.e. 4+, 5+, 6+ and so on. These plus-sized nappies are exactly the same size as their non-plus versions, but offer increased absorbency for big wetters and overnight usage. How can you tell when a nappy needs changing?

Pura partners with the Woodland Trust, the NHS, the NSPCC, the Hygiene Bank and Nappicycle. Made in the UK. This adds up to a lot of nappies. If your child went through eight nappies a day until they were two years old, it would total more than 5,300 nappies. Nappy size guide

Rascal + Friends proudly boasts that its nappies have ‘no nasties’, meaning they’re free of latex, chlorine, fragrance and lotions, and use water-based inks. Its nappies contain sustainable pulp, are vegan and are certified by animal rights organisation PETA. Here’s what Pura has to say: “We believe being eco-friendly is no longer a luxury, but a necessity. And that we should all be able to look after our planet, simply by looking after our families. We put babies first, with anti-allergy, organic ingredients and sustainable, biodegradable materials. So you’re protecting their skin and protecting their future too. We’re here to empower everyone to protect the future of the planet today, with eco-friendly products that are affordable and accessible for all” Spending more doesn’t guarantee a better nappy either. In fact, our nappy survey results have uncovered a top-rated brand that offers some of the cheapest nappies around, as well as expensive brands that left parents dissatisfied.

A correctly fitting nappy should allow no fluid leaks either through the leg holes or up around the waist. If you find that leaks are a recurring problem, then it’s worth trying a different size in your current brand, or testing another brand as one manufacturer’s sizing can differ significantly from another’s. For example, Tesco nappies come up larger than most, while Pampers are a little on the snug side. If you're considering switching to cloth nappies, see our round-up of the best reusable nappy brands . How many disposable nappies do babies use per day? Most disposable nappies are designed with easy-fastening Velcro tabs, an elasticated waistband and elasticated leg holes to give a snug fit. You might need to experiment with different brands to find one that best fits your baby. It's likely that your baby will use between six and 12 disposable nappies a day in their first few months, with this decreasing as they get older.

circulate for maximum dryness, breathability and comfort. Pura’s size 1 and 2 nappies also contain a handy wetness indicator strip. Awarded the EU Ecolabel (meaning they meet the highest environmental standards), Pura nappies feature a super-absorbent, FSC-certified, plant fibre inner core and are produced with 100% renewable electricity and no production waste. While most disposable nappies are recyclable, the UK doesn’t currently have the facilities to process them in the right way. If you love the convenience of disposable nappies but want to minimise your impact on the planet, Pura’s range will make you nappy happy! We set out to create an environmentally-friendly nappy that doesn’t compromise on nappy performance, bottom comfort or value for money. The result is the happiest nappy all-round. For each nappy brand we asked parents to rate five key features: absorbency, comfort, ease of use, fit and value for money. We now highlight Great Value nappies - these nappies must score 65% or more in our tests and, when it comes to price per nappy, are at least 20% cheaper than the average cost of nappies we've tested. Is it cheaper to use disposable or reusable nappies? A cookie set by YouTube to measure bandwidth that determines whether the user gets the new or old player interface. Each nappy can take hundreds of years to naturally degrade, so the sheer number of disposable nappies thrown away presents serious problems to the environment. This is particularly true when you consider that each baby could use more than 5,000 nappies before they are fully potty trained.
